Health & Beauty
Stress is a word that originates from the French vocabulary and trans lates as “estrece”, the word itself is used to describe a limitation or constriction of your powers and abilities.
If you can relate to this word, as I most certainly can, there are many ways that you may reduce the effects of the wear and tear that everyday life has on you. To reduce this stress I personally find a Spa the perfect place to find the peace and relaxation that I long for during my day.
After my recent visit to the Re Ka Ta Spa on Kata Beach, I can whole-heartedly claim my experience met and surpassed all my expectations. When entering the reception, the welcome I received has to be one of the most warm and courteous greetings I have ever come across in my history of Spa encounters.
The gracious receptionist kindly offered her advice as I was contemplating which therapy would most suit my needs. I am to this day grateful to her for suggesting the ‘Four Hands Senses Massage’ that is also the Signature massage of the Spa.
Leading me to the treatment room, the delicate therapists P Ple and the ever-gentle P Ray invited me to change. The thought of having two people to administer my therapy seemed intimidating, given the one therapist that I was used to, I soon realized that I hadn’t even begun to imagine how incredible four hands working on my tired body could feel.
It is better to experience rather than read about the intensity provided by two incredibly skilled operators working in unison, however I will attempt to give you a glimpse of my tranquil journey into the depths of euphoria.
As they first attended to my back and shoulders, guiding their gentle but forceful palms over my shoulder blades and using their unbelievably adept fingers to nurse my lower back, I fell instantly into a blissful haze.
They worked their way down my body, stopping only to apply more sweet-scented frangipani oil to their well-practiced hands; they woke me from my haze briefly to turn me gracefully over onto my back. The two therapeutically blessed practitioners slowed their pace as they came to my upper thighs, patiently caressing the day’s weariness out of my legs.
To complete this 60 minute treatment, I was given a foot and shoulder massage to remember and quite a surprise from what I had expected. With P Ray massaging my shoulders and P Ple my feet, in sync. they produced a feeling of ultimate satisfaction and for that moment in time I was completely content.
I absolutely cannot thank Re Ka Ta Spa enough for the sense of calm they embedded within my mind and body…. the stress of the day seemed only a distant memory. “I soon realized that I hadn’t even begun to imagine how incredible four hands working on my tired body could feel.”

“It’s so perfect I think I’ll fall asleep soon”
After a long week of working and not enough sleep it was treat so I paid a visit to the Spa Cenvaree at the Centara Grand Resort which was recently named the Thailand winner in the Best Luxury Spa in the World Luxury Hotels awards for 2012. The Spa Cenvaree along with the Five Star Centara Grand Resort itself opened only in 2011 and is located on the most secluded part of Karon Beach.
Spa Cenvaree boasts traditional Thai décor and a lavish array of candles gives it a true sense of tranquility while the scents of aromatic oils waft through the air. The Spa has ten treatment rooms with a private Jacuzzi and offers a broad selection of treatments.
I was greeted by my therapist, P’Jade who also helped me pick one of the popular treatments which was enticingly name the Signature Salt Pot Muscles Melter. After completing the guest questionnaire, I was escorted to the relaxation lounge bedecked with skylights and waterfall features which gave me an immediate calm feeling. I sat down on the most comfortable couch and enjoyed my warm herb tea for five minutes, then my therapist came to take me to my 90 minutes of splendid luxury.
Before the treatment my therapist gave me a foot-bath with sea salt and Siamese Neem Tree Leaf extracts which act as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.
The treatment that I’d chosen combines deep tissue aromatic oil massage with a hot salt pot compress in order to release tension in the shoulders and the lower back muscles.
My therapist’s stroke was very firm, strong and smooth and while she put hot salt pots on my shoulders, she explained that each pot contains a special blend of coarse salt with herbs that have strong detoxifying properties. She asked me from time to time that “is this pressure okay?” My only response to her was: “It’s so perfect I think I’ll fall asleep soon.”
After I said that to her I don’t remember exactly how long I stayed awake and the treatment was so sumptuous and soothing that it perfectly erased my tiredness.
My therapist led me back to the relaxation lounge while she prepared my fresh cucumber drink and also delicious dried pineapple and then she encouraged me to relax. She didn’t have to tell me twice, I sat down and enjoyed my snack. I basked in the silence for a few moments as I sipped my drink, all I wanted to do was just sit there as long as possible and enjoy this warm luxurious feeling.
The Cenvaree Spa a very memorable, high quality and uplifting experience and well worth time and money invested.

RELAXING the mind and revitalizing the body is what almost everyone is seeking nowadays, to help cope with a busy lifestyle and a stressful living…..and I must admit I’m one of those people who love to let loose and find time to relax and enjoy the fine pleasure of pampering myself.
When I was introduced to the Let’s Relax Day Spa, located in one of Patong’s hectic streets, the moment I entered, I felt as though I was experiencing a totally different world.
Let’s Relax is beautifully decorated with plants and a lovely fountain, while the scents of aromatic oils waft through the air, and a refreshing cup of a Pandanus-based drink is served to you as a welcome.
Let’s Relax Day Spa was established seven years ago in Chiang Mai and as they’re commitment to providing excellent services all over the country, they have now expanded to a total of seven branches located throughout Thailand, in Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Bangkok and Phuket.
Let’s Relax offers many kinds of treatment including Foot and Hand reflexology, Thai Herbal Massage, Body scrub and Body wrap, Aromatherapy oil massage and Facial relaxation.
During my own visit I was introduced to their aromatic hot stone massage which I had never experienced before and in addition, given a forty minute foot massage as I had told them my legs were feeling quite stiff.
After the welcome drink, I then chose the massage oil that I wanted, which was called “Relaxing” from their selection that included Lavender, Coconut, Siamese blend, Lemongrass, Sweet bloom and Green tea.
My therapist, P’Kai first gave me a lovely foot bath, then led me to my private treatment room which, as it had two treatment beds, would have perfectly suited a couple.
Sitting in a comfy chair and having my feet gently massaged, I found myself nodding off to sleep as I was so relaxed.
When the foot massage finished, I was feeling as though I was walking on air and my feet and legs felt so light, it was almost like I was floating. Definitely it was one of the best foot massages I’ve had in a long time.
My therapist was then ready to begin my next treatment which was the hot stones massage.
I moved from the most comfy chair onto the treatment bed and this treatment lasted for 90 minutes. All the stones used are thoroughly cleaned with anti-bacterial soap before and after the treatment to ensure cleanliness and they are heated for about 20 minutes before the treatment.
When my therapist placed the hot stones on my back they were just the right temperature as she combined regular oil massage with the hot stone massage. Her stroke was very firm, continuous and smooth and her use of pressure point techniques was consistent.
I felt really grounded and deeply relaxed and I really did feel the difference in my relaxed muscles. This was my first experience of hot stone massage and it definitely won’t be my last.

Meet the plant of Immortality and its Phuket Guru
Emmanuelle Ghobert is a most unusual and gifted Belgian woman who has brought her flair for cosmetology and indeed life to Phuket. Let us introduce you to her stunning gifts that may change your life forever!
Emmanuelle Ghobert started her voyage of creative discovery by specializing in the hospitality sector and in particular the wonderful world of French gastronomy working for seven years producing wonderful French cuisine. But after her initiation into the world of creativity, she branched out from food to beauty as it were. She became entranced by the world of beauty and appearance and general good health and decided to study for a Masters Degree in Cosmetology. She remarks that cosmetology keeps on evolving and developing through time and advances in modern science and technology are continuing to have a huge impact on the world of beauty and the treatments designed to enhance and capture it. Cultural influences are also important in cosmetology and with globally instantaneous communications, we now inhabit a world in which learning from every country and culture can be assimilated and applied here in Phuket to produce the most wonderful results in pursuit of beatification.
One innovation of enormous importance in the world of beauty is the discovery and use of the so called “plant of Immortality” or Aloe Vera. This most amazing plant can be traced back to the time of the Pharos and has been used since Egyptian times 3,050 years before the birth of Christ. In fact it is depicted in hieroglyphics carved into the stone walls of Pharos’s tombs, so important was it to these ancient people. Preparations made from the plant itself are often used in the cosmetic and alternative medicine industries which make claims for its soothing, moisturizing and healing properties. Aloe Vera gel is also used as an ingredient in commercially available lotions, yogurt, beverages and even some desserts.
Thailand is blessed in that it has the perfect climate for growing Aloe Vera and happily enough this wonder plant can be used for the treatment of many of the conditions that Phuket’s climate may induce. The sun and rains can be destructive to the natural beauty of one’s skin, but this wonder plant can be sued to counteract the effects.
In addition Aloe Vera is used topically to treat wounds and many skin conditions and it can even be taken orally as a laxative. Today, in addition to traditional uses people take Aloe orally to treat a variety of conditions, including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and osteoarthritis. People also use Aloe topically for osteoarthritis, burns, sunburns and psoriasis.
Aloe Vera gel can be found in hundreds of skin products, including lotions and sun-blocks, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved it as a natural food flavoring.
Indeed Aloe Vera is a wonder pant a true gift of Immortality in the pursuit of beauty and we have an abundance of it here in Phuket.
