Dining in Paradise at Baan Vijitt
The beautiful The Vijitt Resort sits on the hillside overlooking Chalong Bay with stunning views across Phang Nga Bay and the dreamy Lon and Coral Islands in the foreground like a painting by Monet.
The Vijitt Resort occupies a luxurious open spread of 18 acres with 250 meters of its own private sandy beachfront. The verdant grounds are filled with mature palm and fruit trees and other native flora giving it an air of a sanctuary, or oasis, miles from the mad, frenetic version of Phuket Island that lurks just outside its grounds.
Even so, all this calm and tranquility is nestled in a quiet southeast corner of Phuket which is only an hour from the airport and 30 minutes from Patong Beach or Phuket Town.
The Vijitt Resort offers luxurious accommodation that is all villa-based, featuring wonderful views across the beach and the bay to the islands beyond. In addition, there are one infinity-edged pools and two great restaurants; the Savoury, famous for languorous Sunday brunches, and the elegantly-designed Baan Vijit restaurant.
Baan Vijitt was designed as a traditional Sino-Por-tuguese house, in the style of those in Phuket Old Town, originally as the Vijitt family home, and is now a luxurious restaurant featuring Southern Thai specialties focusing on local flavors and cuisines using the healthiest and freshest produce and ingredients.
You can sit indoors in the elegantly black and white patterned floored dining room with its Sino-Portu-guese antiques and enjoy the cooling
air-condi-tioning, or outside on the pretty patio, or on verdant lawns, overlooking limpid Lilly pools, with the beautiful sunrise in the morning across Chalong Bay and its dreaming islands beyond the beachside palm fronds, just meters away.
Baan Vijitt is a marvelous place for a relaxing lunch, which is exactly what I recently enjoyed. I savored Executive Chef Sarawut’s wonderful new menu brimming with local creations.
This tantalizing menu presents classic dishes, many with a contemporary twist which will satisfy the palates of discerning food connoisseurs, and there’s plenty of choice for diners who prefer mild dishes, or those with lots of spice.
Dishes such as fresh local yellow crab curry with white noodles, or baked oysters with deep-fried vegetables can be enjoyed at lunch, or rock lobster satay and deep-fried minced chicken in a golden pastry ‘bag’ at supper, and all are wonderfully prepared and served by gracious smiling staff.
The wine cellar is equally comprehensive and reasonably priced with a large selection of New and Old-World wines featuring all the most famous varietals and wine geographies. There’s a good choice of wines by the bottle and the glass plus a broad selection of cocktails and other libations.
Lunch or supper at Baan Vijitt is truly a romantic treat to be savored and enjoyed in this hectic world and I urge you to do so as soon as you can!
