Meat Extravaganza at La Boucherie Chalong
La Boucherie Restaurant was originally created in 1974 in Megève, France, and aimed to serve quality premium steaks in a rustic and traditional décor. Following its success, the group expended rapidly and in 2014, La Boucherie Chalong became the iconic steakhouse it is today.
Following a long tradition of serving the best protein value for your money, La Boucherie Chalong offers a mouthwatering menu that surely will please your palate from the appetizers to the desserts including three unique and wonderful sets of French breakfast to choose from. Executive Chef Pascal Geudin, with more than 35 years of experience, runs the kitchen and ensures all dishes are prepared with care and great finesse.
Located in one of Phuket’s most revered residential area, La Boucherie Chalong sets the tones with a simple yet elegant decoration of red and black clothes, reminding us of a traditional butchery shop in the 80’s. The air-conditioned inside dining showcases a great selection of imported wines at very special prices, while the outdoor seating is perfect to dine al fresco under the stars.
First up, we were served the traditional Beef Tartar, accompanied by home-made French Fries, roasted tomatoes with oregano and breadcrumbs. A great blend of textures between the freshly minced beef and the egg yolk, a touch of vinegar, onions, capers and on-point seasoning gives this light dish a rich flavour we can’t stop eating. A perfect way to start the meal!
Behold! as the main course slowly makes its way to the table; a perfectly cooked Beef Entrecote (or Rib Eye for the non-French) is brought to us, medium-rare or the way it should be, with a shiny marbling fat making every new bite more tender than the one before. This 300 grams giant is served with flavourful roasted potatoes and a black pepper sauce.
Not a beef amateur yourself? Fear not, as the well-conceived menu presents you with chicken, pork and lamb as well. Our second selection was the Lamb Chops, cooked over a very simple seasoning to let the true taste of the lamb shines. Cooked perfectly to medium, those are served with your choice of sides and sauces. We strongly recommend a glass of red wine to accompany the tasty course.
Another recommended dish is the Lamb Shank, by far the most tender of all we had the opportunity to try in Phuket; tender, well-seasoned and cooked to perfection! This certainly will make you come back for more!
And when you think that you’ve tasted it all, a beautifully crafted dessert is ready to be served; in our case, a strawberry mousse cake with fresh strawberries and crusty dough, decorated with a strawberry and mango sauce, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. If this was not the perfect meal, then we don’t know what is.
