Getting to know: Ammy Thaweewongsap
From Patong Hill heading towardPhangMuang Sai Kor road, you will certainly notice a tall building with a touch of luxury cruise, featuring a rooftop infinity swimming pool under the name ‘The Marina’. This Phuketian-owned hotel is run by a passionate young blood business woman, AmmyThaweewongsap, who is the Managing Director at the steer of this new hospitality development.
Please tell us more about yourself
After graduating from Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University, I continued my MBA at the Metropolitan College of New York. I came back to Phuket 6 years ago and started working in the family businesses that include Amata and Tony Resort in Patong.
I started from bringing in online travel agencies to the resorts. I’ve worked for all positions aside of General Manager I was also Sales, Reservation, Marketing, etc. After 3 years, the resorts were performing well and The Marina was already finished.
What working experience or academic knowledge can you apply with The Marina?
I use my direct experience working in the hospitality industry;I know our target customers as we are in Patong and what they want. We also offer MICE facilities as we want to attract groups. The rooftop of The Marina is our key potential. During the day, the rooftop features a good atmosphere for business or a relax talk while during the night it will be a proper dining avenue.
What are the outstanding points of The Marina?
I would say the rooftop. I think, there’s no others like us in Patong so far. Our concept of design is that we look at the hotel as a cruise ship and our staff are like the sailors. This hotel will cruise everyone along the ocean with a great experience. This concept is reflected on every detail in the hotel from the decorations to the service style. The rooftop can be recognized as the prow of the boat.
What is your administration strategy?
I start from myself. Before creating a policy or ordering someone to do something, I have to look at myself first. Being a good example for the staff is key. Also, I do not micromanage my staff as we have a General Manager here. I spread the orders through the GM who directly manage each department and we can evaluate the result from there. Communication is very important.
Any coming event / promotion?
On the New Year night, we will organize transportation for the customers from Amata and Tony Resort to join us at the rooftop where we can see all the fireworks.
