A dream come true by an IVF expert
Dr.Sasiya Metatratip Obstetrician & GynaecologistReproductive Medicine
Why did you choose to become an IVF specialist?
I was passionate about the science of women’s health since a young age as I have been surrounded by women in my
family. We have been considerably forging ahead with IVF technology since the first IVF baby was born in 1978. I find it very amazing to keep abreast of changing trends and technology. It is a unique chance for me to fulfill a family dream. It brings happiness to them and eventually to me.
Why did you head down south to Phuket?
To me, there are still very few facilities for fertility care in Phuket, and there is a great opportunity to reach out to local residents, foreigners, expatriates in Phuket and nearby provinces. This will only add to the world-class tertiary care at Bangkok Hospital Phuket.
People wonder about the success rates of IVF technology. Please share your insight with us.
Currently, average world success rates are 35-40%. As each IVF facility focuses on different technologies and protocol, it is possible that each one will come up with a rate based on its own statistics. As for the Phuket Fertility Center, our success rate is around 50-60%.
Could you please give us an overview about the Phuket Fertility Center?
We are actually on a par with all leading facilities in Thailand and abroad. What makes us stand out is that we place patient safety as our first priority. Medications are administered to ensure maximum patient safety and minimal complications. With sophisticated technology, we provide comprehensive fertility care ranging from family planning and in-depth examinations, through to Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Any advice for couples who are on the lookout for their little angels?
Of course, going a natural way is ideal for all. Tips for fitness and fertility include a nutritious diet, regular exercise, a healthy weight, abstinence from alcohol and smoking. For women, taking folic acid early can prevent birth defects of your baby’s brain and spinal cord. In case acne medications or certain antibiotics are used, please seek medical advice for concerns about fertility.
In general, after at least one year of unrestrained married life (sexual intercourse: 2 – 3 times per week) without baby conception, it is advisable to consult a fertility specialist. Earlier consultation is advised in the case of females aged over 35. Thanks to IVF technology, every family can have a dream come true. What was impossible yesterday is all possible today.
