Make Everything ‘Dee’ at Nookdee Boutique Resortby Andacura – Kritchawat Kittipiroon
Dee is a Thai word that means good and can be put at the end of an adjective to emphasize the meaning. Nook is short from Sanook which means fun. Put together, Nookdee is a local boutique resort that serves you a fun environment in a local Thai style.
With 30 years experience in the hotel industry, Khun Kritchawat Kittipiroon is now the General Manager of Nookdee Boutique Resort by Andacura and he recently shared his vision and working experience with us.
Please tell us more about your background
I’m originally from Bangkok. About 10 years ago, I had a chance to work at the Cape Panwa Hotel. From there I moved to the Dusit Thani Laguna. I realized that Bangkok life is too rushed for me and I have chosen to live in Phuket since then. While I specialized in Food & Beverage, I have worked in other departments as well and have been a General Manager for the past eight-nine years.
How is your management strategy?
I can’t work alone and every staff in the resort matters. As I used to work in every level and position, I understand their tasks and I know what their needs are. We often have activities together like staff gatherings and sports days and we regularly do beach cleaning. We work together as a family. I also have lunch at the canteen, just like everyone else.
What are the differences between working in a 5-star hotel and boutique resort?
I decided to join the team here at Nookdee because I like the concept. I worked in several 5-star hotels. When it comes to a boutique hotel, we have to look at the concept and the concept of Nookdee is simply Thai style.
Working in a 5-star hotel is stricter with standard procedures everywhere but at a boutique hotel we can play around more.
The challenge with working in a boutique hotel is that the chain hotels’ sales and marketing is quite strong and they have their own customer base as well as travel agents.
What are the outstanding points or strengths of the property?
Our view is obviously our strength. We have a sky bar where guests can enjoy the sunset view with stunning cocktails. Also, we do not say “no” to our guests; we always try our best to serve our guests needs as much as possible and we always say “we can do”.
The concept of Nookdee is fun in a Thai style. We name everything in the hotel with ‘Dee’ at the end, even the staffs’ names end with ‘Dee’. Our restaurant is named Roydee which means delicious and our spa is named Sukdee which means happy, showing that we give our guests everything that is ‘Dee’ [good].
There are 77 rooms including deluxe, superior, deluxe panorama, deluxe panorama corner and a villa. Nook- dee Boutique Resort is managed by Andacura, along with seven-eight other properties in Thailand. The decoration of the restaurant is very local Thai style with Thai country music. The food at Roydee is authentic no matter if it is Thai or western food as we use the finest and freshest ingredients.
