Let’s go green in Baan Bangrong
If you are tired of the urban lights and crowded city, Baan Bangrong in Thalang will definitely make you forget about it. This place leaves you with a lasting memory of the native’s lifestyle and purity of mangrove nature that is carefully preserved for eco-travellers.
Forget about the signature sea, sand and sun, big shopping malls and wild night life. Baan Bangrong takes you to a place you possible never imaged existed. This preserved mangrove is hidden in Baan Bangrong in the Paklok sub district of Thalang. It is an old Phuket community previously called Muang Thalang Bangrong city as it was a center of the local organisation. The community members are mainly Muslim fishermen and orchardists.
Baan Bangrong is surrounded by mountains and the sea is another attractive highlight of the area. And once here you will discover plenty of wildlife such as long-tailed macaques, mangrove crabs and many other animals that you won’t find in the big city.
When you arrive at the site, there will be a long-tail boat service to take you along the waters of the mangrove where you will see the local’s lifestyle such as fish farming. However, if you would prefer to explore the place by yourself, they have canoes and kayaks available for rent.
Along with relaxing with nature, a one-day trip to Baan Bangrong will allow you to learn about the community’s history including their roots, traditions and culture which has made them what they are today.
Including having lunch, the trip around the community usually takes 4-5 hours and includes:
1. Learn the community’s history from ancient items which are left with detailed explanations from local tour guides.
2. Trek in mangroves and fill your lungs with fresh air while viewing cute wild animals. You can also help plant new mangrove trees.
3. Experience the community life, visit the local fish farm and feed fish including White Perch, Red Snapper and Grouper.
4.Canoe along Bangrong Canal, discovering the ecology of the mangrove and the local community life that live close with nature. Here you see mangrove crabs and blenny fish.
5.Visit fruit plantations growing durian, lanzones,mangosteen, champedak and many other local fruits.
6. Visit a goat farm where you can try the yummy milk and meat products produced by the local people. They will also invite you to try drawing milk from the goats.
Nearby the Baan Bangrong community there is also the Bang Pae Waterfall. It is the most famous waterfall in Phuket with crystal clear waters for you to dip into and relax almost all year round.
Meanwhile, in the surrounding area, there is a gibbon rehabilitation center which is run under the slogan “Bring Gibbons Back to the Woods”. The project aims to physically and mentally heal gibbons which were taken from the forest, thus making them ready to go back home.
